Perry Street Park<\/strong>\u00a0has been officially crowned as Australian music\u2019s brightest rising band, after taking out the national ‘Passport to Airlie’<\/strong>\u00a0competition at the 10th anniversary <\/strong>of the\u00a0Airlie Beach Festival of Music <\/strong>last night!<\/p>\n

The Brisbane<\/strong>-based four piece beat competing acts from not just their\u00a0home city but also Darwin, Mackay, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay<\/strong>\u00a0and Cairns<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Originally forming through sessions with Benny Nelson<\/strong> (The band’s front-man who was a 2019 finalist in the Passport to Airlie competition) over 2018 and 2019 the boys decided to come out of COVID-19 with a fresh new project and formed Perry Street Park.<\/p>\n

As part of the prize, the band has\u00a0now secured themselves\u00a0a place on the main stage line-up at next year’s Airlie Beach Festival Of Music, where this year\u2019s headliners include the likes of <\/span>The Animals, Eskimo Joe, Rogue Traders, Ben Lee & Jon Stevens.<\/strong><\/p>\n
The Passport to\u00a0Airlie judging panel included Aussie music legends\u00a0<\/span>Sarah Mcleod<\/strong>, <\/span>Bill Chambers<\/strong>, <\/span>Innocent Eve<\/strong>‘s <\/span>Rachel Olsson<\/strong> and <\/span>Busker By The Lake’s Joel Jensen<\/strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0and they all agreed\u00a0it was incredibly hard to choose just one winner from the overall pool of talent, but Perry Street Park were definitely the band that stood out the most across the field.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah McLeod also reiterated what a great opportunity the ‘Passport to Airlie’ competition presented for emerging talent, and said she looked forward to the interaction all competitors would enjoy with Airlie Beach Festival of Music audiences this weekend.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sponsored\u00a0by Brick Lane<\/strong> and held under the main tent for the first time ever, the night closed with an incredible acoustic set from Sarah herself, including a cover from one of this year’s headliners The Animals, with “House of the Rising Sun”<\/strong>. The tent was packed from the first passport finalist and only grew as the night went on.<\/span><\/p>\n
In addition to the main stage line-up at the idyllic waterfront location of the Whitsunday Sailing Club<\/strong>, the festival runs a live music program at participating Airlie Beach venues, including Anchor Bar<\/strong>, Beaches<\/strong>, Boaty\u2019s<\/strong>, Fish D\u2019vine<\/strong>, KC\u2019s Bar and Grill<\/strong>, Magnums, Paradiso, Sorrento Restaurant<\/strong> and Bar, Treehouse,<\/strong> and the Whisper Restaurant & Gin Bar at Mirage Whitsundays.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
All Passport to Airlie acts, including Perry Street Park,\u00a0<\/span>The Neo,<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Abi Muir<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>Weathered,<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Karly Jewell<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>Dande & The Lion<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>Sunday Lemonade<\/strong>\u00a0&\u00a0<\/span>Owls of Neptune,<\/strong>\u00a0can be found at various festival venues over the weekend.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Festival founder, <\/span>Gavin Butlin,<\/strong> said it isn’t too late to secure a festival pass. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cThree-day passes cost $300 and give you access to all venues and events, and if you can\u2019t make the whole weekend there are day passes for $140,\u201d <\/em>he said. The festival will be\u00a0running from\u00a0<\/span>November 4-6.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
